Civil Emergency Unit (CEU)

The Civil Emergency Unit (CEU) is a joint effort between Medic and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department that is called to action during potentially dangerous situations such as riots, protests, or demonstrations; situations where it would be unsafe to send most Paramedics or ambulances into a scene both due to access problems as well as the likelihood of a constantly changing, volatile scene. Since originally partnering with CMPD in 2006, the number of specially trained Paramedics that are assigned to this elite team has grown to ten personnel. These high performing Paramedics initially are put through a vigorous tryout process and then continuously go through intense, specialized training in addition to their normal continuing education to include law enforcement tactics, Hazardous Materials and riot control agents, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), and Search and Rescue tactics.
